Wigton
Moor v Pool U14’s League Match 31st October 2010 Pool u14’s travelled to Roundhay Park today to face Wigton Moor in the league and finally
got the win they have deserved all season. On
a sloping pitch, Pool played the first have facing up the incline, yet played as though they were facing down. With excellent
interplay of the ball and movement, the Wigton players were chasing the game the whole half and they were the ones beginning
to tire as the half drew to the close.Unfortunately
for Pool, the decided bad luck that they have been suffering all season came to haunt them in the last few minutes of the
first half, when Wigton scored from a fluky shot, some 30 yards out. Pool however have been here before and didn’t let this get to them. They continued to play
the better football and into the second half and the slope in their favour, began to apply some real pressure on the Wigton
goal. A deflected shot from Jonathan Bedford drew Pool back on level terms and then Pools dominance began to really show.
Adam Marshall was moved into a midfield
role and from then on, there was only going to be one winner. Adam Marshall saw to that, by finishing a driving run with a
clinical finish. The game continued with all the pressure coming from Pool and the odd counter attack from Wigton that fizzled
into nothing. Pool maybe should have added to their tally, best chance coming as Luke Tasker fired in a sweet corner that
was met by Adam Marshall’s forehead and glanced the bar as it ricocheted over. The final whistle bring the game to an end and a 2 –
1 victory to Pool U14’s. Wigton Moor 1 v 2 Pool U14’s

U14’s v Pannal Sports League
Match 26th Sept 2010 Pool played host to Pannal Sports today in their first afternoon KO of the season. Pool came in
to the game with no hang-ups from last seasons 2 encounters and quickly took control. Their defensive play was solid and they
broke up everything on offer, from this very strong Pannal Side.Pool were unlucky not to take the lead when a well struck shot from Jacob Clarke reverberated the
cross bar. A string of other chances would have had them sailing into a healthy first have lead, had it not been for some
good positioning from the Pannal goalkeeper. It
was Pannal that were to take the lead though, against the run of play, with a powerful forward run and low shot inside the
post.Pool responded well and had 3 glorious
chances before Jonathan Bedford managed to bury one passed the Pannal Keeper.Pool were confident entering the second period of the game, but ever mindful of Pannal’s
threat. Pool continued in the same vain, but with a little tiredness creeping in, Pannal were just beginning to get a little
stronger. On game play alone the 2 teams
were evenly matched in the second half and Pool had lost slightly, the dominance of the first, but it was to be this evening
of the teams that would benefit Pannal more.Pannal,
battling hard, were starting to apply more pressure of their own on the goal and it was 2 minor errors that would allow them
to strike twice in the second half and run out victors at 3-1.This game was a testament to the hard work that goes on in junior football and a delight for the spectator.

U14’s v Harrogate Railway Reds League
Match 19th Sept 2010 Match day 3 sees Pool U14’s face Harrogate railway Reds on a drizzly overcast morning at
Pools home ground. With what can only
be described as an ‘injury crisis’ occurring this week, that would have had the most seasoned Premiership Manager
scrambling for the excuses book for their pre-match interview, the team arrived for what promised to be an enthralling encounter. The game started very well for Pool and the first half was
an impressive display of discipline and opportunities taken. Harrogate, a very organised and resolute side, had no answers
to Pools solid back line and on the rare occasions they found themselves beyond it, it was in the shadow of an offside flag.Pool ended the half 2 – 0 up with a clinical finish
from the ever improving Adam Magary and a sweet side foot from Arif Butt that came from a corner looped over by MOM Luke Tasker.
It would have been 3 had it not been
for a save of the season from Sham in the Harrogate Goal, who tipped the ball on to the crossbar from a wonderful strike from
the in form Adam Marshall. With the first
half well and truly Pools, it was only a matter of ‘do the same and remain disciplined in the second half’. If only it where as easy as that!!!Credit is to be given to Harrogate Railway for their determination as they
entered the second phase of the game, but Pool almost ‘tales of the unexpected’ capitulation brought a loss of
comprehension to all, players included. There simply seemed to be no explanation, as everything they tried simply refused
to work for them. Pool had to endure
the ball sailing 7 times into the back of their net and were it not for some heroic saves from 3rd choice keeper
Jacob Clarke; it would have certainly been into double figures. With a final score of 7-2 to Harrogate Railway, there was much dejection in the Pool dressing room.
The only heart that can be taken is that they know they can more than compete as they showed in the first half. Pool U14’s 2 v 7 Harrogate Railway Reds

U14’s v Ripon League
Match 12th Sept 2010 Pool U14’s had their first away game of the season today, hosted by Ripon. After a long drive
and a little venue confusion, we found ourselves arriving a touch late which interfered somewhat with our pre match warm up.This showed early on in the game as 2 sloppy bits of play
found Pool 2 goals down by the 15 minute mark. It felt strange to be in this position as Pool were definitely playing the
better football, but were not helped by the first half sun in their eyes and the postage stamp sized pitch they were playing
on. After another 10 minutes Pools tactics were changed, with a switch of personnel to counter the awkward playing conditions.
This bore fruit with a quick couple of goals from Will Sampson and Luke Tasker both bursting through and firing home.Pool them moved into the lead in the game when Adam Magary
was cynically brought down in the box and Will smashed home his second. For the second week running Pool went into the half time break in the lead, but disaster was just
around the corner, with a goal from a swift counter attack and a dubious penalty Ripon found themselves 4 – 3 up. Even
worse for Pool, was an injury to Charlie Winterburn in goal in the attempt to save the Penalty!Unlike last week, Pool dug in and Jonathan Bedford was able to take advantage
of the sun in the Ripon Keepers eyes and score with a fumbled save from the keeper. This was followed by the sort of controversy that seems to plague Pool, (a Russian
Linesman incident). A shot on goal from Adam Marshall that clearly crossed the line was missed by the only man you don’t
want to miss it, the referee. With a
4 – 4 end result Pool now find themselves with their first point on the board with more to come. Ripon 4 v 4 Pool U14’s

U14’s v Nidd Tigers League
Match 5th Sept 2010 Pool U14’s Started their season today at home to a strong Side from Nidd. It was apparent
from the start that Pool would have to dig in and produce their best if they were to get something from this game, with some
fine off the shoulder runs from Nidd’s forward.Nidd took the lead through one such run, but with a slight reshuffle at the back, bringing a little more pace
to the back 4, Pool really started to take control. With a composed finish from a ball across the box, Arif Butt levelled
the game at 1-1, Then 2 superbly taken corners from Niall Farrelly met the head of Adam ‘beat me in the air if you can’
Marshall and pool found themselves walking off at half time 3-1 up and in control of the game.Pool came out the second half and after a bit of a barrage from Nidd, who
always looked a threat, Pool managed to add another from MOM Niall Farrelly with a cheeky step over and flick of the ball
into the net.It is credit to Nidd that
they didn’t drop their heads with 25 mins to go and 4-1 down. They just started again and kept coming. Unfortunately
Pool started to waver at the back and their line began to bend. They were finding it increasing difficult to handle the Nidd
striker playing off their shoulder. Despite some brave saves from Charlie Winterburn and some re-adjustments to counter this,
Pool could just not settle as the score went from 4-1, to 4-2, to 4-3, to 4-4, to 4-5 in favour of Nidd.Pool will be extremely disappointed with a loss that should
never have been, but heart will be taken in some excellent individual performances. It also gives a good indication of the
areas they need to work on.
